Kipepeo (Swahili for butterfly) is a community based enterprise that supports the livelihoods of people living around Arabuko Sokoke forest in coastal Kenya, East Africa. This provides an incentive for their participation in the conservation of a forest with high biodiversity and endemism. Kipepeo seeks to demonstrate the tangible link between conservation and livelihood.

In here you can visit the Butterfly house and see the the Butterfly Exhibition and admire the colorful butterflies of Arabuko Sokoke and other forests while you learn of their importance to local livelihoods and conservation.
On Monday and Thursday mornings meet and talk with farmers as they deliver pupae and honey to the Market Place. Also see how the honey and silk cloth are processed at the facilities.
History
The Kipepeo Project, administrated by the East African Natural History Society in partnership with the National Museums of Kenya, was set up in 1993. The project initially involved 152 households in four communities on the eastern margin of the forest. By early 2001 there were 546 farmers involved in the project, representing 15 of the 18 communities in and around the forest, and plans had begun to involve the remaining three communities.
