In
our efforts to improve the interactivity of our website,
we have launched yet another new discussion forum
alongside our GuestBook
system where people with common interests can register
and immediately begin to share their opinions, experiences
and a host of other content on Kenya.
Be a part of this initiative especially now with the
on-going post-election violence threatening to dent
our tourism image that we have worked so hard to build
and give a positive report based on your own uplifting
experiences. Click here: http://www.enchanted-landscapes.com/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl |

Tourism
Sector Set to REGAIN its
Lost Glory
|
Kenyans
travelling around the country in the first quarter
of the year helped cushion the tourism sector from
collapse. Latest
statistics show that the domestic tourism segment
of the industry grew its occupancy by 45% - the best
performance compared to all other segments of the
sector.
Figures released by the Kenya Tourist Board (KTB)
show that domestic tourism earned the sector up to
Kshs. 3.65 billion of the total Kshs. 8.08 billion
earned during the period under review. KTB managing
director, Ongong’a Achieng’, says domestic
tourism has continued to record good performance as
people become more aware of taking holidays in the
country. He also noted that the media campaigns by
various players in the sector have also borne fruit
seen in the higher bed occupancy. Total bed occupancy
in the night increased by 67% from 30% during the
same period last year.
Meanwhile, three of Kenya's
leading business lobbies bringing together foreign
investors will join forces in a dramatic gesture of
support in a US$ 200 million (Kshs. 12.3 billion)
campaign to reclaim losses in the tourism sector due
to negative press and low tourist arrivals.
The British Business Association of Kenya (BBAK),
East African Association and the American Chamber
of Commerce of Kenya (ACCK) will hold a joint meeting
in the world famous Maasai Mara game reserve and stage
a publicity photograph showing business leaders alongside
the slogan "Kenya is open for Business".
Speaking during the launch, BBAK chairman, Mr Stephen
Mills said that it was high time Kenya received some
positive media coverage after the tragedies of the
past two months.
